Share a little about your journey planning weddings here in Savannah and around the Lowcountry:

“Elegant Savannah Weddings was created by my husband and I, a little over 6 years ago. My husband Mark has his degree in Business Management. He spent 10 plus years as the restaurant and events manager at 10 Downing, a local Savannah wedding venue here in Savannah. During that time, he gained a lot of experience and knowledge about the Savannah wedding industry. He learned the ins and outs of wedding planning. After our first daughter was born and I decided to leave my corporate job, we thought, why not start a wedding planning business? I have experience in the hospitality world & had studied some design in college, so we thought why not? We took a leap of faith. And we are so glad we did!

We think everyone deserves to have their dream day, no matter how big or small. And we think Savannah is the perfect place to have that dream day! Our business has grown in the last couple of years. We have some amazing, hardworking colleagues & we are excited to have recently celebrated our 800th wedding!”

What is the benefit to hiring a planner and working with your team?

“Hiring a planner means you have a wedding planning virtual assistant! Let us sweat the small stuff for you! We will be there for you from engagement to wedding day …. and beyond because we tend to fall in love with our clients and want to be friends with them after! We schedule meetings, we set up tastings, we schedule tours, we suggest professional vendors, we listen, we design, we manage, we coordinate, we budget, we laugh with you, we cry with you, we create with you, we have fun with you!”

If a couple is not considering hiring a planner for their day, what is one tip you could share with them to make their experience stress-free?

“If you’re not thinking of hiring a full service wedding planner or if it’s not in the budget, we definitely suggest at least hiring a day of coordinator. A day of coordinator is like hiring a manager for the last few months of wedding planning and for the day of – they will finalize details with event professionals, create a wedding day timeline, go over logistics with venue, ETC. Hiring a day of coordinator ensures that the day you have spent so much time planning runs smoothly and exactly the way you want it to, without any hiccups. It allows you peace of mind and peace of mind is priceless. A day of coordinator allows you and your family & friends to be fully present and enjoy every aspect of your special day.”

MEG’S INSPO FOR THIS SAVANNAH WEDDING VENUE

What about this venue gets you excited to design the space?

“Everything! From the history of the house, to the architecture, to the beautiful green garden outside. It’s such a beautiful wedding venue!”

What is important to look for in your wedding venue?

“Whenever you’re looking for a wedding venue, it’s important to look at a venue that fits in your budget and one that is big enough to fit your estimated guest count. We typically suggest looking at a few venues before making your final decision. Your planner will be able to read over the venue’s contract with you and explain all the fine details.”

THE MOOD BOARDS

What style wedding can you envision taking place in this space?

“For the client who is looking for a more neutral wedding, I would love to see an all baby’s breath wedding! I envision a baby’s breath arch at the alter with a ton of clear candles decorated down the aisle.

For the Client who is looking for a more colorful wedding, I would love to see wildflowers! I have a feeling wildflowers are going to be popular in 2023. An arch with wildflowers at the altar, wildflower aisle markers on the ceremony chairs, and colorful candles down the aisle.”

PLANNING YOUR DREAM DAY AT HARPER FOWLKES HOUSE

What are some unique wedding day details that would look really cool at this venue?

“The natural green that surrounds the Harper Fowlkes House allows you to style this venue in many different ways. Also, we have seen both neutrals and colors at this venue, and both made beautiful weddings! It would be neat to see a client play on the history of the house, perhaps a Bridgerton style wedding at the Harper Fowlkes House!”
